tagcheck(1)

tagcheck1

Check a tagged file for consistency with its descriptor

Usage

tagcheck filename ...

Overview

Tagcheck tests a tagged file, first opening the corresponding descriptor file. This is found by identifying the type of the tagged file, which will be found between Tag- and -version in the first line of the file. The descriptor file is found by searching on the descriptor files path for a file with the name of the tag file type, and a suffix of .dsc

The descriptor file search path is /usr/local/lib/tag/dsc:/usr/lib/tag/dsc/:.

If the descriptor file can not be read then the checks which can be made on the file are limited to the following:

The value on the End: tag (if present) is checked against the value of the first tag, and an error reported if they do not match - for example
Id: one
Label1: value1
End: two

would be reported as an error.

If the descriptor file can be read then the following checks are made:

Any tagnames which are not mentioned in the descriptor are reported.
