maillog1
Seach logs for mail to/from particular people.
Usage
maillog [-0-9
-s]
person
Overview
maillog searches the machines' current mail logs for mail to or from the user. It is used to see if one's mail was sent (actually ``was processed by the router or smtp programs''), and when.
The ``-0'' through ``-9'' options cause older copies of the logs to be searched.
The ``-s'' option causes smtp logs to be searched.
Examples
The log router entry for each message consists of the mailer's internal file number, the sender, the string ``=>'' and all recipients. This is illustrated just below.
% maillog [email protected] maillog: searching for mail to/from [email protected] in router log. <[email protected]>: file: 9237 David Collier-Brown <davecb> => <[email protected]>, <[email protected]>
The smtp logs entries are different: they contain an internal file number, the string ``MAIL From:'' or ``RCPT To:'' and the person's name, thusly:
% maillog -s davecb maillog: searching for mail to/from davecb in smtp log. 858w MAIL From:<[email protected]> 1971w MAIL From:<@VM1.YorkU.CA:[email protected]> 4321w RCPT To:<[email protected]>
