Interface between emacspeak and a doubletalk speech synthesizer
DTK_PROGRAM=dtk-dt; export DTK_PROGRAM
dtk-dt is a tcl script that accepts text and commands on its standard input and forwards them to a DoubleTalk LT or LiteTalk speech synthesizer connected to a serial port, or a DoubleTalk PC internal speech synthesizer. It is normally executed as a subprocess by emacs(1) when running emacspeak(1).
For the internal DoubleTalk, you also need the device driver. Currently, this is available in a separate package with a name like dtlk-1.12.tar.gz. It must be unpacked and compiled, the resulting module must be installed, and a matching device /dev/dtlk must be created.
The current version of dtk-dt accepts no options.
DTK_TCL
Gives the name of the program that Emacspeak should start, to drive the speech synthesizer. The default is tcl, which is appropriate for this driver.
DTK_PROGRAM
The name of the script which TCL should execute. For the DoubleTalk, set this to dtk-dt (as suggested under SYNOPSIS above). Emacs will look for scripts in a standard directory, normally /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/emacspeak/.
DTK_PORT
Points to the device where the speech synthesizer is connected. If not set, the default is as follows: /dev/tty00 under ULTRIX or OSF1, /dev/ttya under SunOS. Under Linux, the default is /dev/dtlk if it exists and can be read from and written to, or /dev/ttyS0.
DTK_DEVICE
Specifies which speech synthesizer is connected. The value should be one of these strings: DoubleTalk LT, DoubleTalk PC, or LiteTalk.
/dev/dtlk
special device file for DoubleTalk PC.
Unchanged in 2 releases since Debian 2.0 (Hamm).
